A Student of federal university of Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), Katsina State, has today upon her graduation recanted her challenging experiences, and  the roles played by those she valued most during her school days, “Inspired by Prof. Ibrahim Isa Ali Pantami’s wisdom,” she said, “I wear this graduation shirt with a powerful message: “Skills Rather Than Just Degrees.”

Emphasising on education as the backbone of every civilized society, she also spoke on expertise,“ It’s a reminder that in today’s world, what truly matters is the expertise we bring to the table and our commitment to growth.”

“I wish to see more from our youth students and citizens embracing this”

Editorial Review

Education remains the key to success in so many ways. It may take a long time, if not a lifetime, for one to realise how fortunate they are to have at least been able to learn to read and write.

Therefore, reading, learning or studying, whichever term you rightly suggest, is a complex one which takes its initial place from the point of our visual recognition of alphabets or objects to the mental thought processing area of the brain where communication and interpretations are made possible.

One can’t write if they can’t read, but you can learn if you so desire; and the truth, however, is that it makes you appear less confident to express yourself when there’s not enough information in your mind.

So, to change the world and imprint your presence upon other’s memories is only possible through your writings, problem-solving skills, services and others.

We are all on a mission to serve mankind, and there could be a problem in your society that would require an expert solution, or in your place of activities like business, office or others. So, would you do, as a young person,  if you failed to fill the gap?

However, reading and writing may not be a reliable yardstick for measuring one’s (IQ) mental capability in terms of solving complex problems, nor is it a cure for failure and poverty; yet it is a helpful path to understanding, coordinating, and assimilating a large amount of scattered information that might become a solution to a problem.

Now, in final words, it’s my wish to encourage our youths and young people out there to embrace learning and skill acquisitions rather than giving up on education and condemning it as a total waste of time.
