Paris, France (EPICSTORIAN)– As France teeters on the edge of political uncertainty, President Emmanuel Macron continues to search for who is qualified to be appointed a new prime minister.
Macron, according to sources, will host former leaders of France, including two important political actors nominated for the office of the next prime minister on Monday.
The French president will meet socialist Francois Hollande, rightist Nicolas Sarkozy, and Bernard Cazeneuve, former member of the Socialist party and a seasoned politician, Reuters reported.
Macron’s continued search for a new Prime Minister, especially arising from his decision to not appoint a Prime Minister led by the left-wing New Popular Front coalition, has dragged on far longer than expected.
This underscores the deepening crisis at the heart of the French government, as he faces mounting pressure from critics across the political spectrum to end speculation over his chosen candidate.
His recent call for a snap election resulted in “hung parliament”, igniting the “weeks-long political deadlock”.
Observers predict Macron may appoint Bernard Cazeneuve
Former French prime minister, Bernard Cazeneuve, has been suggested by analysts as Macron’s possible nominee for the office of the new prime minister.
He is well respected by the right and also may be seen “as one of the most likely candidates to lead a new government”.
Cazeneuve withdrew his membership from the Socialist party two years ago, frequently protesting against its close tie with the left-wing France Unbowed (LFI) party.
Scrambling to find a suitable candidate to fill the power void, Macron, according to the French newspapers Le Figaro and Le Parisien, is set meet Xavier Bertrand, a member of the conservative party Les Republicains and president of the Hauts-de-France region.
