A woman, on the island of Guadeloupe, suspected of decapitating her two young children was subdued by police with a stun gun and later hospitalized in a psychiatric facility after being found wandering the streets naked and singing.
The victims, a four-year-old and a 13-month-old, were discovered by their father around 3:25 AM on Tuesday, lying in a bathtub in their home in Sainte-Rose.
The father had just returned from work and immediately alerted emergency services, who found the children’s mother in an erratic state, according to Dailymail.
The woman, who is believed to have committed the gruesome act, was found wandering the streets naked and singing. Police officers arrived at the scene to find her “in a state of delirium,” according to General Christophe Perret, the commander of the Guadeloupe gendarmerie.
When approached, she was reportedly incoherent and unable to offer any explanation for her actions.
Public prosecutor Caroline Talbo confirmed that the mother was initially detained but was later released due to her apparent mental instability.
Guadeloupe Murder follows After Niagara Falls Death
She has since been admitted to a psychiatric hospital for treatment. Authorities have opened a murder investigation, although specific details about the case remain scarce at this time.
An autopsy of the children’s bodies is set to take place, and a bladed weapon was found at the scene, which will now undergo forensic analysis. The father, who was deeply shaken by the tragedy, was treated for shock by emergency responders.
The brutal killings have left the neighbors reeling, coming just a few days after a similarly devastating incident involving a mother and her two children tragically lost their lives in Niagara Falls.
