Abuja, EPICSTORIAN – The Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has denounced the 1st August planned national protest as irrelevant and politically motivated.
Wike suggested that the protest only aims to dampen on the efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, thereby distracting Nigerians from his ongoing successful projects.
The Minister stated this in Abuja on Tuesday, while on an inspection tour to the Apo-Karshi Road construction project.
He craved Nigerians indulgence to be to hopefully wait on the government of president Tinubu to deliver its promised economic packages in due time.
Wike noted that the president has put effective measures in place to ameliorate the harsh impact of the current economic crisis experienced by almost every household in the country.
During the inspection, the minister expressed disappointment at the slow progress of the contractors in charge of the Apo-Karshi road construction and issued a seven-month grace period to ensure its completion.
In his remarks, Wike said the delay was as a result of persons who have some selfish or political interests.
According to the FCT Minister, 80% of the finance meant for the total cost of road construction contract had already been paid.
He noted that there was no justifiable reason put forward by the contractors for the delay in completing Apo-Karshi Road project.
Wike inherited the Apo-Karshi road project initially commissioned by president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan
The Apo-Karshi road project has been under construction since the past 13 years, and currently remains at slow pace to completion.
The road, which had been estimated at the initial total cost of N6 billion covering over 14 kilometres, was awarded by the government of the former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2011.
