Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, a movie set weapons handler, was  sentenced to 18 months in prison on April, 16 for the murder of a cinematographer.

The incident occurred after the movie amourer, Gutierrez-Reed , loaded a gun for actor Alec Baldwin that she said “accidentally” fired at  cinematographer, ending her life.

Before the prosecutor’s final judgement on her alleged “crime”,  the young armourer, 26, was found guilty of “involuntary manslaughter in March”.

She was found not guilty of a second charge – tampering with evidence – over the 2021 shooting of Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust, BBC said.

Her 65-year-old boss, Alec Baldwin, was also said to have been pointed out to  face “a manslaughter trial in July” but had pleaded not guilty to the pressed charges.

The Judge, Mary Marlowe Sommer,  handing down the sentence in a New Mexico court, described Gutierrez-Reed’s actions as a “violent offence” .

“You alone turned a safe weapon into a lethal weapon,” the Judge said Gutierrez-Reed.

“But for you, Ms Hutchins would be alive. A husband would have his partner and a little boy would have his mother.”

One of the Prosecutors, prosecutor Kari T Morrissey, blamed Gutierrez-Reed for loading the gun with live rounds in stead of fake rounds bullets that would sound like real ones.

“This case is about constant, never-ending safety failures that resulted in the death of a human being,” he argued  during the trial.

Another  prosecutor, Ms Morrissey told members of the jury that Gutierrez-Reed was “negligent”, “careless” and “thoughtless” to have not been professionally able to identify the live bullets in a box of ammunition on set.

Halyna Hutchins, a Ukrainian cinematographer, who was shot dead by Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, a film rust armourer, on a movie set.

Hutchins’ family, in response to how they felt about the verdict, said they were “satisfied”, including the victim’s sister.

“We look forward to the justice system continuing to make sure that everyone else who is responsible for Halyna’s death is required to face the legal consequences for their actions,” the said in a statement.

According to BBC’s report, before she was sentenced, Gutierrez-Reed addressed the court, sympathizing with the Hutchins family and stated that she felt for them and their friends.

“The jury found me guilty; that does not make me a monster. That makes me human,” she said.

However , after listening to Gutierrez Reed statement, Judge Sommer said she felt the weapon handler had failed take responsibility for her actions. “I did not hear you take accountability,” the judge said.

During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence that Gutierrez-Reed had brought a box of live bullets to the New Mexico film set from her California home. They said these live rounds slowly spread throughout the set over the course of 12 days, said the report.

Gutierrez-Reed’s lawyer during the trial argued that the prosecutors had provided not enough evidence, noting that his client was not be held accountable for knowing whether there were live bullets brought on set.
