Uzodimma demands stronger support for traditional institutions at Eze Imo Palace
Owerri , Nigeria — Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has emphasized the importance of supporting traditional institutions as custodians of culture and stability.He made the statement at the Eze Imo Palace in Owerri during the 25th anniversary of HRH Eze Dr E C Okeke CFR as Eze Udo II of Amaifeke.

The governor noted that traditional rulers play critical roles in sustaining peace, promoting unity, and guiding community development across Imo State.

Traditional institutions and their role in society

Uzodimma explained that empowering traditional rulers strengthens conflict resolution and enhances cooperation between local communities and the state government.

He said that their cultural influence and leadership contribute significantly to building trust and cohesion in society.

According to the governor, modern governance benefits when institutions of heritage work alongside political authorities to secure grassroots development.

Celebrating 25 years of leadership at Eze Imo Palace

Uzodimma paid tribute to Eze Okeke, describing him as a fatherly figure whose leadership has shaped peace and growth within the state.

He prayed for the monarch’s continued reign and acknowledged his contributions to sustaining tradition and order over the past 25 years.

The governor further commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for recognizing cultural leadership, represented at the occasion by the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi.

He said the federal presence demonstrated respect for heritage and reaffirmed traditional rulers as essential partners in governance.

Uzodimma added that the palace continues to serve as a symbolic venue for civic dialogue and a hub for community leadership in the South East.

He also highlighted previous engagements with royal councils that reinforced the importance of structured collaboration between the state and traditional rulers.

The governor noted that similar public addresses at the palace had previously underscored the role of cultural institutions in peacebuilding and policy discussions.

He concluded that sustained support for traditional institutions will preserve cultural heritage, strengthen social order, and encourage unity across Imo State.
