The missiles have an estimated range of between 150 and 280 miles.
If approved by Congress, the missiles could be delivered before the end of the year.
It remains unclear whether restrictions will be placed on Ukraine’s use of the weapons.
Ukraine will finance the deal with support from Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, and US Foreign Military Financing.
The State Department said the agreement demonstrates cooperation with NATO allies to enhance European defense capacity.
According to the official statement, the sale aligns with US foreign policy and national security objectives.
The agreement is expected to improve the security of a partner country in Europe.
The announcement coincided with a night of intense Russian missile attacks against Kyiv.
Ukrainian officials reported multiple civilian casualties and infrastructure damage following the strikes.
United States missile sale strengthens Ukraine defense
The ERAM missiles are designed to provide long-range precision strike capabilities.
Analysts said the weapons would allow Ukraine to respond more effectively to Russian advances.
The United States previously supplied Ukraine with HIMARS launchers, artillery, and air defense systems.
Washington has also supported Ukraine with intelligence, training, and humanitarian assistance.
Ukraine missile deal supported by NATO allies
European allies Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway pledged funds to help Kyiv complete the purchase.
NATO officials described the sale as part of a coordinated effort to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capacity.
Ukraine remains heavily reliant on Western support to maintain resistance against Russia.
Further details on the proposed sale are available through the US State Department.
