Abuja, (EPICSTORIAN) – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerian governors to prioritize grassroots development by strategically investing revenue allocations to address pressing local needs.

Speaking at a meeting with the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) in Lagos, Tinubu emphasized the critical role of state governments in driving the nation’s progress and fostering prosperity.

Collaboration for National Growth

“We have to work harder, grow more, and ensure the situation of our currency improves,” Tinubu stated. He stressed that achieving lasting prosperity requires consistent effort and collaboration between the federal and state governments.

The president commended governors for their efforts so far, encouraging them to take pride in their contributions while working collectively to address the challenges facing Nigerians. “The states of the Federation play a critical role in driving Nigeria’s prosperity and development,” he noted, urging them to lead with a sense of duty.

Focus on Agriculture and Food Security

Tinubu highlighted the agricultural sector as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s economic transformation, emphasizing the importance of leveraging state resources for food security. “The agricultural value chain hinges on the contributions of the States. With ownership of the land, States hold the key to achieving food security,” he said.

The president urged governors to invest in initiatives that maximize agricultural productivity, create jobs, and reduce dependence on food imports. According to Tinubu, empowering the agricultural sector is essential to building a self-reliant and resilient economy.

Leveraging Revenue Allocations for Grassroots Impact

Acknowledging the increase in revenue allocations under his administration, Tinubu challenged state leaders to utilize these funds strategically. “Since our administration took office, the improvements in revenue allocations have empowered our federating states even more. I urged them to strategically invest these resources into further development at the grassroots to meet the aspirations of all Nigerians,” he said.

Tinubu’s call underscores the importance of ensuring that government resources directly benefit citizens at the community level. By focusing on grassroots development, the president believes states can address poverty, unemployment, and social inequality effectively.

Vision for a Unified, Prosperous Nigeria

President Tinubu concluded his address with a call for unity and a shared commitment to national progress. “Together, we can build a Nigeria we are all proud of,” he said, reinforcing the importance of collective action in overcoming economic challenges.

This directive reflects Tinubu’s broader economic vision of reducing inflation, stabilizing the naira, and fostering sustainable development across all sectors of the Nigerian economy. By urging governors to prioritize grassroots initiatives, Tinubu aims to create a more inclusive and equitable society.
