Officials said the alleged killers of the American couple hijacked their cruising catamaran while sailing, and had possibly thrown them into the water.
Police said the suspects had, after seizing Mr Henry and Ms Kathy’s boat, sailed away to the island of St Vincent where they were apprehended and “taken into custody until final conviction in March”. (three escaped inmates)
The court in Grenada charged Ron Mitchell, 30, Atiba Stanislaus, 25, and Trevon Robertson, 23, on Thursday with capital murder, escaping lawful custody, housebreaking, robbery and kidnapping.
Police said the suspects escaped prison on 18 February before hijacking the US couple’s catamaran and sailing 80 miles (128 kilometres) to St Vincent, where they were arrested on 21 February, a media source reported. (three escaped inmates)
Speaking at a news conference Don McKenzie, the Grenada police commissioner, said Mr Ron Mitchell and his co-offenders “criminal acts” were multiple“ which included inflicting pain and other “bodily harm” on the diseased “couple”. (three escaped inmates)
According to a trusted source, the catamaran of the Virginia couple, who belonged to the Salty Dawg Sailing Association, named Simplicity, was found abandoned near a beach on the St Vincent south coast.
There is no evidence or report by the police as to whether their death has been confirmed but the missing couple’s family suggested that they might have been dead. (three escaped inmates)
After selling their home in Alexandria, Virginia, Henry and Kathy had lived almost 10 years of their lives on their boat, said the Salty Dawg Sailing Association.
They were enjoying the winter on their boat in the Eastern Caribbean.
The couple’s family said, in a short statement, Henry and Kathy “brought light” that will never be extinguished from the hearts of people” and it is somehow unfortunate that their lives have ended so sadly. (three escaped inmates)
“While the end of their life may have been dark, they brought light, and that light will never be extinguished from the hearts and minds of the people who knew, loved and cared so deeply about them,” the family expressed. (three escaped inmates)
