(EPICSTORIAN) – The 2025 Golden Globe Awards, the year’s first major showbiz event, showcased a diverse array of international films, setting the stage for an exciting awards season.

French director Jacques Audiard’s “Emilia Perez” and the epic immigrant drama “The Brutalist” emerged as the evening’s big winners, sweeping several top categories and setting the tone for the awards season.

“Emilia Perez,” a surreal narco-musical set in Mexico, took home an impressive four awards, including Best Comedy or Musical Film. The film, which delves into the life of a drug lord transitioning to a woman, had entered the ceremony with the highest number of nominations—10 in total—and lived up to the hype.

In addition to the Best Film honor, it claimed Best Non-English Language Film, Best Original Song, and Best Supporting Actress for Zoe Saldana, who beat out co-star Selena Gomez for the accolade.

“It’s an honor to be part of such a groundbreaking project,” Saldana said during her acceptance speech, clearly emotional as she held the trophy.

On the drama side, “The Brutalist”, a powerful portrayal of a Hungarian Holocaust survivor navigating the complexities of post-war life, was named Best Drama. The film’s star, Adrien Brody, also took home the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama for his intense, nuanced portrayal of the troubled character.

Brody, whose career has spanned a wide array of genres, expressed his gratitude, remarking, “This film is a tribute to survival and the resilience of the human spirit. I’m deeply honored to bring this story to life.”
