Senator Aminu Tambuwal returns to Sokoto with a large rally, declaring plans to challenge APC in 2027 under ADC leadership.
Sokoto, Nigeria — Thousands of supporters from Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states welcomed former Sokoto State Governor and current Senator Aminu Tambuwal as he returned to his home state on Friday.Addressing the crowd, Tambuwal vowed to unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform.

His return marks a significant political development in northern Nigeria, signalling the former Speaker of the House of Representatives’ intention to consolidate support and mount a strong challenge to the ruling party in the upcoming polls.

Tambuwal 2027 campaign kickoff signals strategic electoral mobilisation

During his address, he criticised the APC-led administration and President Bola Tinubu for what he described as deepening economic hardship, insecurity, and political instability.

The former governor called for unity among Nigerians to collectively work toward removing the current government in the next election cycle.

“My message is simple: we must join forces to send APC packing in 2027. The ADC and our allies will galvanise every corner of this country to make that happen. We will not be intimidated, we will not be silenced, and we will not allow the suffering of Nigerians to continue unchecked,” he said.

Political observers noted that the large turnout was a calculated demonstration of political strength, reflecting Tambuwal’s reach beyond Sokoto and his readiness to influence the political balance ahead of 2027.

Sokoto politics and ADC election strategy

The event drew women’s groups, youth organisations, and loyal party supporters, filling the streets with chants and banners in a display of electoral mobilisation.

The crowd’s composition, which included supporters from multiple states, underscored Tambuwal’s cross-regional appeal and his ability to strengthen ADC’s prospects in the north.

Analysts described the rally as an early indication of the ADC’s intent to challenge the APC’s dominance, using grassroots engagement and coalition-building as central campaign tools.

Tambuwal addresses EFCC appearance

Tambuwal also responded to reports regarding his appearance before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, stressing that his visit was voluntary and dismissing claims of financial misconduct.

“My visit to the EFCC was voluntary, of my own volition. I was quizzed and released on self-recognition as a man honoured with the national honour of the Commander of the Federal Republic. Their so-called allegations that I withdrew over ₦2 billion monthly from the Sokoto State Government account are nothing but blatant lies. How much is even the state’s monthly allocation from the Federal Government?” he asked.

His remarks drew attention to ongoing scrutiny of high-profile political figures, as well as the importance of transparency in Nigerian politics.

APC 2027 challenge and northern political implications

Touted as one of the prominent figures capable of reshaping northern political dynamics, Tambuwal’s pledge to contest the APC’s hold on power has already sparked national discussion.

Analysts believe his strategy could influence voter turnout, coalition-building, and opposition unity in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.

By engaging grassroots networks and maintaining strong regional connections, Tambuwal and the ADC aim to position themselves as a credible alternative to the current ruling party, setting the stage for a competitive political contest.
