

Also at the South-Eeast Governors Forum, members addressed the issue of security and economic integration within the region


South-East Governors Forum, on Tuesday, resolved to seek President Bola Tinubu’s leniency for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the long detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Unanimously agreed to appeal to Tinubu on Nnamdi Kanu’s behalf, the members’ decision was reached after hours of long discussions at the Enugu State Government House.
The move aligned with the state governors’ continued efforts in fighting insecurity in the South-eastern region of the Nigeria.
Members of the forum in attendance at the meeting were the governor of Ebonyi state, Francis Nwifuru, the governor of Enugu state, Peter Mbah; the governor of Abia State, Alex Otti; the governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, and the governor of Anambara state, Prof Charles Soludo.
According to a document released after the meeting, the governors cooperated in a decision to be talks with the Federal government to “secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu
It read: “The Forum resolved to visit Mr. President to discuss pressing issues concerning the South East Region.
“The Forum also resolved to interface with the Federal Government to secure the release of Mr. Nnamdi Kanu.”

The governors discussed sourh- economic integration and security challenges
The forum members also sympathized with family of His Excellency, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, the first civilian governor of Abia State, who passed a few months ago.
They equally, during the meeting for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, discussed the implementation of September 28, 2023 South East Security and Economic Summit, which win Owerri on September 28, 2023, with
“The Forum commiserated with Government and people of Abia State, Ebonyi State, Imo State, South East, Nigeria and Chief Ogbonnaya Onu’s Family on the demise of His Excellency, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu,” the document added.

“The Forum received the delegation of the Former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, GCON and His Royal Majesty Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe CFR, Obi of Onitsha who came on a solidarity visit to the Forum.
“The Forum deliberated on the reviewed report of the South East Security and economic Summit held in Owerri on the 28th September, 2023 and agreed to implement the aspects of the report pertaining to security and economic integration and affirmed its desire to put actionable plans on the key issues agreed.”
