A traffic officer was fatally struck by a speeding taxi in Piet Retief while enforcing road safety.

Piet Retief, Mpumalanga, South Africa (EPICSTORIAN) – A committed traffic officer tragically lost his life while enforcing road safety regulations in Piet Retief on Friday, January 24.

Jabulane Ndlovu, 46, was conducting a speed enforcement operation on the N2 highway between Piet Retief and Ermelo when a speeding minibus taxi struck him. Despite immediate medical intervention, he later succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital.

Confirming the incident, Mpumalanga Community Safety spokesperson Moeti Mmusi stated that Ndlovu had attempted to stop the taxi before the fatal collision.

“The taxi was traveling from Ermelo towards Piet Retief when it struck the officer. Authorities have opened a case of culpable homicide,” he revealed.

The devastating loss of Ndlovu has reignited concerns over the dangers faced by traffic law enforcers. Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Jackie Macie, acknowledged the risks officers encounter daily while upholding the law.

“Despite the dangers, our officers must continue their crucial duty to protect road users. We urge them to remain vigilant and support one another. Likewise, motorists must respect traffic laws and comply with enforcement officials,” he emphasized.
