(EPICSTORIAN) – Ukrainian Air Force said it successfully aborted a coordinated ballistic missile attack launched by Russia on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, at approximately 7:00 AM on December 20, 2024.

The Air Force reported that five Iskander-M/KN-23 missiles were fired from Russia’s Voronezh and Bryansk regions. All five missiles were intercepted and destroyed before reaching their targets.

“The swift and precise work of our defense systems prevented another tragedy,” the Ukrainian Air Force stated in a press release.

Ukrainian Air Force confirmed no Casualties

The missile defense systems, crucial to Ukraine’s ongoing war efforts, demonstrated their effectiveness against sophisticated ballistic threats as Kyiv residents were shaken but expressed relief after  the military confirmed there were no casualties.

Russia continues its aerial and ground assaults despite international sanctions, which, of course, heightens regional tensions as the missile strike reflects its persistent strategy of targeting key Ukrainian infrastructure and urban centers.

Meanwhile, bolstered by Western support and advanced air defense technologies, Ukraine remains resolute and capable of countering Russia’s offensives.

Ukraine Calls for Increased Western Aid

The Russia-Ukraine war, nearing its third year, remains at a brutal stalemate. Russia continues targeting Ukrainian energy infrastructure, leaving millions vulnerable, while Ukraine faces shortages of ammunition and calls for increased Western aid.
