

Republic of Tanzania celebrates 60th anniversary as it today shares in world's democracy after dethronement of Sultan of Zanzibar
Dodoma, April 26, (Epicstorian News) – President Samia Suluhu with the people of the Republic of Tanzania today celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar.
Tanganyika and Zanzibar were merged On 26 April 1964, after a revolutionary movement that overthrew the sultan of Zanzibar, to become the now the Republic of Tanzania; and has had 5th democratically elected presidents with Samia Suluhu, the first female president, being the sixth president.
The Republic of Tanzania, also simply called Tanzania, is a prominent presence in eastern Africa with strong alliance and established economic and regional cooperation with neighbouring African Nations, such as Zambia, Uganda, Kenya, Mozambique, DR Congo, Burundi, and Rwanda, Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, and Swaziland
Since the independence of Tanzania in December 9, 1961 the country’s Presidents, including Samia Suluhu and her predecessors, have respectively contributed their nation’s quotas to the progress of various economic and political organisations established by governments of the Eastern African regions.
Eastern African countries share poli-economic mutual interests in these organisations, which include he East African Community (EAC), The Southern African Development Coordination Conference (SADCC), Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU), the Southern African Customs Union (SACU), and the African Union and Non-Aligned Movement etc.
