A nationwide power blackout hit Ecuador on Wednesday, said the nation’s official, Minister Roberto Luque.
Lugue, Ecuador’s Public Infrastructure Minister, explained that ‘a transmission line failure resulted in a “cascade disconnection.”
Writing on X, Lugue further explained the nature of the power blackout
“The immediate report that we received from the CENACE (National Center of Energy Control) is that there is a failure in the transmission line that caused a cascade disconnection,” he said .
“So, there is no energy service on a national scale,” Luque wrote on X.
“We are concentrating all our efforts on resolving the problem as quickly as possible,” he added.

Following the announcement of a nationwide electricity outage, which occurred in the mid-afternoon of June 19, several economic activities were adversely affected.
This caused significant disruptions to businesses, government services, and public transport services, especially in the key commercial areas of the country.
Affected major cities, include Cuenca, Portoviejo, Quito, and Guayaquil, among others.
Commercial activities and factory operations may remain delayed and transport services slow as traffic signals will likely not work.
Use of telecommunications services, including mobile phones and cellular devices may be hampered.
Essential service outlets may be affected by the electricity cut, too, such as the fueling stations, banks, resulting in people finding it difficulty to use the automatic teller machines (ATMs).
Sources suggest the temporary nationwide outage may negatively impact on the county’s security protocols, electronic fences and vigilant alarm systems.
