The Youth Council Chairman, Chijioke Ihunwo and 15 others, have been arrested by the Nigerian police at the official home of the impeached Speaker of the 10th Assembly of the Rivers State House, Martins Amaewule. (2)

This arrest had come earlier as they were accused of disturbing the peace of guests at the official residence of Martins Amaewhule, who was impeached on Monday by lawmakers loyal to Governor Fubara, Arise news reported.

The presence of the State’s chairman of the National Youth Council, Chijioke and others, was deemed unwelcome at the former Speaker’s residence after learning of his move to galvanise protesters in favour of the State’s governor’s leadership.

Chijioke had organised a group of youths to halt a  protest at the State’s government house against governor Fubara’s Leadership, the idea of which did not sit well with Dr. Martin Amaewule.

However, In response to the State’s political crisis, members of the PDP, People’s Democratic party, Governors’ Forum have today accepted President Bola Tinubu’s resolve to intervene for peace restoration in Rivers State.

This was revealed in a bulletin released after the meeting of governors of the (PDP) opposition party at the Oyo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja on Tuesday.

The governors have said they “were alarmed at the recent developments in Rivers State and welcome the intervention of Mr. President to bring the crises to an end”, according to the bulletin signed by the Chairman of the Governor forum and the governor of Bauchi State.

In a collective effort to restore peace in the State, the governors of People’s Democratic party PDP have “urged all parties to the Rivers State crises to sheath their sword and resort to peaceful means of resolution.”

The Governors Forum also promised to give “its platform for a quick and just containment of the issues involved.”

Other preceding developments to this report were Martin Amaewule’s early impeachment draft against Governor Fubara, which later led to his replacement by Ehie; and President Tinubu’s executive intervention, on Tuesday,  to halt the crisis between Fubara and the current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
