The ex-presidential candidate of the labour party, Peter Obi has been fiercely tunguelashed on Tuesday, on his X handle, while addressing his supporters in regards to his earnest desire and commitment to eliminate the issues of poverty sweeping across Nigeria if elected president.
The angry Nigerian who is an indigene of Anambra state, and who also had possibly witnessed Mr. Peter Obi’s past administration as a former governor of Anambra state, has stated that Mr Obi’s past administration as the governor of Anambra state consisted of mismanagement of public funds and woeful looting. “You looted Anambra LGA funds for 8 years and used it to enrich your family business, ” Said Aliyu Emakeakayi.
This fit of bitterness and expression of helpless disappointment, however, had come early as Peter Obi shared a string of posts on global economic analysis with respect to the need for the Nigerian government to arise to its feet to savage and rescue the epileptic condition of the national economy. “We mark the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty today, I restate my unwavering commitment and desire to pull millions of Nigerians out poverty,” said Mr. Peter Obi.
“Our beloved country Nigeria is today, regrettably, known as ‘the poverty capital’ of the World. According to the World Poverty Clock, over 71 million Nigerians live in extreme poverty today and a total of 133 million people, 63 percent of the population, are classed as multidimensionally poor according to the National Bureau of Statistics. No nation can develop with more than half of its population living in poverty. According to Oxfam, the richest 0.003 percent of Nigerians, 6,355 individuals worth $5 million and above, have 1.4 times more wealth than 107 million other Nigerians. This high rate of poverty and gross income inequality, are obviously a threat to national prosperity, security and development.
Investing in small businesses across the country has shown to be the fastest way of lifting people out of poverty, as has been proven by other comparable economies like India, Bangladesh, China
According to the United Nations, India lifted approximately 415 million individuals out of poverty between 2000 and 2021. They achieved this remarkable milestone by reducing their global Multidimensional Poverty Index.
Similarly, Bangladesh has lifted over 33 million people out of poverty within the said period; moving Bangladesh into the ranks of middle-income economies, with a projection that it will enter upper-middle income status by 2041.
I, respectfully, appeal to our Governments, at all levels, to take urgent and positive actions by reforming and investing in critical areas of development; health, education, and lifting people out of poverty. This remains my mission in New Nigeria because it is POssible. -PO”
Recounting his past experiences of Mr Peter Obi’s last days in office as a ‘corrupt governor’ who was not a saint like the rest of ‘Nigerian politicians’, the young man could not be hushed by Pro-Obi’s New Nigeria supporters, who also flooded the comments box with a barrage of insults . “You couldn’t pull 21 local governments in Anambra State out of poverty, but you want to pull over 220 million Nigerians out of Poverty?” he claimed.
“Here you are talking about poverty eradication 🤡🤡🤡, ” He added added.
