The Peruvian police raided the private home of Peru’s president Dina Boluarte in an investigation into her allegedly unlawful possession of Rolexes and other luxury Watches.

As part of a preliminary corruption investigation, the Peruvian President Dina was reported to have possessed 14 Rolex watches before the police’s raid.

Police broke down the door to her property late Friday after officials apparently ignored orders to open up, CNN reported.

The inquiry was pushed by Peruvian news  La Encerrona’s investigation into president Boluarte’s exotic watches.

La Encerrona, after reviewing thousands of photographs of the President, determined that Dina Boluarte possessed at least 14 Rolexes.

The incident has been tagged “Rolex case” by the Peruvian media since it got published and circulated all over other News outlets.

The president had denied that she would do anything of this form before the police raid, maintaining that she owned them because she worked hard for herself.

“I came to the presidential palace with my hands clean and I will leave with my hands clean as I have promised the Peruvian people,” she said.

In the wake of the police raid on Saturday, President Boularte’s office issued a statement, saying that the searches were completed “without incident.”

Also her lawyer, Mateo Castaneda, told Peruvian broadcaster RPP that the police presence was designed to “create a scene” and was more than would be required and designed to “make a show.”

He said that the police photos of over 10 watches couldn’t match any brand at sight as he could not confirm what brands they were.

Castaneda said Boularte is scheduled to testify at the prosecutor’s office next month. Meanwhile, the president’s political allies were also quick to come to her defence and malign the raid as excessive.
