

Paramedic student dies during confined space training in Namibia University of science and Technology
Windhoek— A male paramedic student of a Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) died while participating in a practical training at the City of Windhoek’s Emergency Training Centre.
The city of Windhoek’s public relations officer, Lydia Amutenya confirmed that the 33-year-old paramedic student died while finishing his Second year bachelor’s degree in Emergency medicare on Thursday.
“At approximately 15h00, the student was participating in a practical component of confined space training, which is part of their second-year Bachelor of Emergency Medical Care training requirements, when the incident occurred,” Amutenya said.
Amutenya explained that the paramedic student was quickly moved from the emergency training Center to its affiliated hospital, Katutura, for treatment.
“Immediate basic life support measures were initiated and the student was promptly transported to the Katutura Hospital for further medical attention,” she said.
However, according to Amutenya, the doctors said the student could not regain consciousness after medical treatments and several attempts to revive him were made.
She also, on behalf of the City’s Mayor, extended her deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.
“An investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident is ongoing, and the City is fully cooperating with the relevant authorities to decipher the cause of the paramedic student,” she added.
