NABLUS, EPICSTORIAN – Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces have arrested Ayham Aqel, a former Palestinian prisoner on Thursday, according to media reports.

Aqel, who had been previously imprisoned by Israel in 2021 under charges related to being part of an alleged “terrorist organization” and tending to “recruit people to work against the occupation”, was reportedly detained by the PA Forces in connection to an ongoing investigation.

Palestinian news agencies said Ayham Aqel has been detained in Nablus by the Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces.

Earlier report from an Israel-based media said the PA security forces have been working to deactivate explosive devices planted at ‘strategic areas’ within the occupied West Bank by the Palestinian Resistance fighters.

It also added that PA over the past few days have detonated 15 explosive devices in Jenin, a location at the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Palestinian Authority Forces arrested Ayham Aqel, who is also Palestinian?

The Palestinian Authority (PA) , in compliance with the Oslo Accords unilaterally signed by Israel and the Palestinians in 1990s, plays a part in fighting against perceived “security threat ” with the Israeli anti-terror intelligence.

The joint-action agreement, includes investigating and detaining Palestinians assumed dangerous to the peace of both parties.

However, the arrest of Aqel has drawn sharp criticism from many Palestinians who frown at PA activities with  Israel, arguing that the detention is both “unjust and politically motivated”.
