- Banks’ daughter Karmity Hoeb, 4, died from being fed Mountain Dew, a carbonated drink that caused her diabetes and dissolved her teeth
Mother of a 4-year-old girl, Tamara Banks, has been put behind bars after she admitted to killing her daughter with a diet of baby bottles filled with Mountain Dew.
Tamara Banks was given 13 and a half years jail term after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughtert, accepting the charges for the killing of her daughter Karmity Hoeb.
The Ohio mom’s daughter, Karmity Hoeb, was killed in January 2022 with Mountain Dew ( a PepsiCo’s product which contains high fructose corn syrup, a sugar substitute, that is actually considered to be more health-hazardous than regular surgar).
Little Karmity died in a hospital, where the doctors said the cause was diabetes-related, a condition that a prosecutor described as ‘one of the most tragic cases I have ever encountered.’
With the level of her health complications, Karmity’s teeth had even rotted away before she breathed her last.
Prosecutors added that Karmity was continually fed through baby bottles long after she should have been weaned off them, and there was no evidence that Banks ever took her to see a dentist, Daily Mail reports.
The lack of medical care was all the more shocking because Banks had several older children who were neglected and malnourished, including a son with undiagnosed diabetes that caused him to fall into a coma, trusted a source claimed.
Banks, Ohio mom, pleaded guilty in March, after prosecutors indicted both her and Karmity’s father with a number of charges including murder and child endangerment, DailyMail said.
Karmity’s 53-year-old father, Christopher Hoeb, also pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, and will be sentenced on June 11, 2024.
According to legal rules, both parents’ guilty pleas on involuntary manslaughter automatically eliminates the other charges against them.
Karmity passed away at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, where she was rushed when symptoms of her untreated type-1 diabetes were already all over her body.
The Cincinnati Enquirer’s reports said the girl ‘suffered horrific neglect throughout her young life, and was denied medical care and proper nutrition despite showing signs of severe medical complications’.
