Namibia’s President, Nangolo Mbumba, congratulates Tanzania on its 60th anniversary of the Union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar.
Windhoek, April 26, (Epicstorian News) – President Nangolo Mbumba of Namibia arrived Dodoma, the capital of Tanzania, to Felicitate president Samia Suluhu on Tanzania’s 60th anniversary of the Union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar on Friday.
With April 26, 2024 being the country’s day for celebrating Diamond Jubilee and 60th Anniversary of the Union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar, the President of Namibia, Dr Nangolo Mbumba joined the people of Tanzania in honouring 60 years anniversary of the union of the United Republic of Tanzania.
President Nangolo Mbumba, in his message of congratulations to the people and the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, said , “The Founding Father and Founding President of the United Republic of Tanganyika and Zanzibar, H.E. Julius Kambarage Nyerere once said, “In Tanzania, it was more than one hundred tribal units which lost their freedom; it was one nation that regained it.”
“These words from our wise teacher, President Nyerere have continued to guide the people and the successive Governments of the United Republic of Tanzania in their mission of unity, development and prosperity.
“Unquestionably, under the sage leadership of Founding President, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, the 26th of April 1964 heralded a new beginning of sovereignty and renaissance for Tanzania and inspired the African people to pursue freedom and African unity.
“Today, I join the fraternal people and the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania to commemorate six decades of a successful Union of the United Republic of Tanzania.
“The past six decades are indeed a demonstration that unity of purpose and nation-building are laudable endeavours in the development of a country.
“Namibia and Tanzania share historic ties. When the liberation movement SWAPO decided to pursue the fight for freedom and resistance against Apartheid colonialism, Tanzania was one of the first and foremost countries that opened its doors to Namibian freedom fighters and further facilitated training for soldiers who were to participate in the armed liberation struggle.
“Tanzania was not only the hotbed of political organisation for SWAPO by hosting the Consultative Congress in 1969 at Tanga, it was equally a key transit point for Namibians enroute to different destinations in pursuit of education.
“Tanzania provided its best talents to train Namibians at the United Nations Institute for Namibia (UNIN) in Lusaka, Zambia. Tanzania agitated at the United Nations in support of our cause for freedom.
“The support rendered by the people and the Government of Tanzania to Namibians is immeasurable and played a pivotal role in our path towards independence. Namibians owe Tanzanians a huge debt of gratitude for the support and friendship during the liberation struggle.
“The commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Union of the United Republic of Tanzania provokes our memory and compels us to reflect on the journey the people of Tanzania have walked with Namibians.
“It is evident that the friendship between Namibia and Tanzania has stood the test of time, rooted in a shared struggle for liberation and the pursuit of unity and development for our countries and the African continent.
“With Tanzania, we share a common vision for a prosperous future. We are now bound by brotherly and sisterly duty towards an integrated SADC region and an Africa at peace with itself.
“As we celebrate Tanzania’s developmental achievements and milestones on the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee of Independence, we are reminded of the remarkable victories that can be achieved through unity, determination, and solidarity.
“In our common fight during the second phase of our struggle, that of economic emancipation, let us continue to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Namibia and Tanzania.
“Let us collectively strive for the prosperity and well-being of our people and harness the potential of our bilateral partnership to address the myriad challenges facing our continent, including poverty, inequality and climate change.”
