Johannesburg, South Africa — A man, Vusi nkambule , has been arrested for the brutal rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl in South Africa, said the local law enforcement.

The lifeless body of the 11-year-old girl, whose name remain undisclosed, was discovered at a farm in Hendrina in August 25, 2024, at about 7:30 pm, according to the police.

The 11-year-old victim’s body was found with stab wounds

Confirming the arrest of the suspected killer of the 11-year-old, Mpumalanga police acting commissioner, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, on Sunday, September 9, commended the concerted efforts of the officers from Hendrina and Breyton police stations to ensure that the suspect did not escape justice.

“The swift action taken by the detectives is a commendable example of teamwork and diligence in the pursuit of justice,” said Mkhwanazi.

“It is through such collaborative efforts that the police can ensure the safety and security of communities and hold those who commit heinous acts accountable for their crimes.”

The suspect who fled after the brutal murder of the 11-year-old girl, according to the Police, was already on R5,000 bail for alleged killing of a young man in February before committing his latest crime.

The county police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, according to a media report, while speaking to the press, said the police couldn’t arrest the criminal culprit immediately because he fled the area soon after killing the 11-year-old girl, having realised that the law enforcement officers would come after him.

“According to a report, the girl’s mother was in search of her daughter but without any success, hence she reported her disappearance to the police,” Mr. Mdhluli explained.

“During the reporting, the woman informed the police that she suspects that her sister’s male companion could know something about her daughter’s sudden disappearance.

“She further explained that before her child went missing, the girl was last seen with the man in question.”

Suspect fled after girl’s murder, leaving blood evidence in shack.

Mdhluli narrated how officers tracked down the suspect following the search for the missing girl, and had found her body “100 metres away” from his shack on the farm where he lived.

“The astute members somehow managed to get inside his shack. It was during this period when the men and women in blue noticed some blood stains inside the shack, then as they continued searching, about 100 metres away from the shack, they discovered the naked body of the child with some stab wounds.

“The little girl was unfortunately certified dead by the medical personnel at the scene. The preliminary investigation suggests that the girl could have been raped by the suspect,” the police spokesperson added.
