(EPICSTORIAN) – A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a police officer was critically injured when a vehicle was deliberately driven toward her.

GMP Briefed the Press Following the Assault on Police Officer

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) reported that the officer, while approaching the vehicle, was struck as it sped toward her. The force has condemned the assault, reaffirming their commitment to protecting the community and ensuring the safety of their officers.

Ch Inspector John Picton expressed his shock over the violent turn of events. “This incident is truly shocking and shows how quickly situations our frontline officers attend can escalate,” he said.

Picton further emphasized the senselessness of the attack, noting that “there is absolutely no explanation as to why this incident needed to end the way it did.”

Following the attack, the officer was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment and is now recovering well, according to GMP. The Stockport district’s police team continues to offer full support to the injured officer as she recovers from her injuries.
