Life in Kuje Prison has taught me a lot about discipline, Ex-gov Nyame

Jolly Nyame, the former governor of Taraba State, who was jailed in May 30 2018, and was granted presidential pardon in 2022.

EPSN _ The former governor of Taraba state, Jolly Nyame has pledged to his people that he will be perform better if given the fourth time privilege to lead the state. Ex-gov Nyame 

Nyame made the promise during a yearly thanksgiving ceremony—which took place at Christian Association of Nigeria Secretariat (CANS) in Jalingo, capital of Taraba state, on Thursday.

Speaking during the occasion the former governor said he had gained a lot of life experiences while serving in the Federal prison, and explained that he was given presidential pardon before the completion of his jail term in 2022 by the former president, Muhammadu Buhari. Ex-gov Nyame 

Nyame, while revealing that his experience and life in jail had taught him great lessons, also encouraged his fellow leaders to remain strong and resilient when faced by challenges beyond their own control.

“I learned a lot while in Kuje Prison and the hospital. If given another opportunity to lead the people of Taraba State, I will do better because of the experience I have gained,” he stated.

Nyame was Convicted for 1.6 billion Naira Fraud 

Nyame, after serving as the former governor of Taraba state in 2017, was arrested and charged for fraud of 1.64 billion Naira in forty-one counts of Fraud by the Economic Crime Commission (EFCC). Ex-gov Nyame

Following investigations and queries by the court, Nyame pleaded guilty as charged and admitted to having misappropriated 180 million naira of the state funds out of 250 million Naira budgeted for stationery and pledged to return the fund before the honourable court. Ex-gov Nyame

Nyame Conviction By Justice Adebukola Banjoko.

Nyame was convicted under Justice Adebukola Banjoko, on 30 May, 2018, at the Federal High court in Abuja, for the charges brought against him and was subsequently sentenced to 14 years in prison; and also was urged to refund the diverted monies. (3)

His case had bordered on 29 counts, according to the Court of Appeal in November 2018. But the Court of second instance, however, reviewed the charges by the trial court and granted him a minimum jail sentence of 5 to 12 years with a penalty fine of 185 million Naira. Ex-gov Nyame

Two years later, on 7 February 2020, the Supreme Court squashed the judgement of 12 year jail term and set aside the imposed fine by the court on the grounds that they were unconscionable and unprompted. Ex-gov Nyame
