Some groups of the Jewish people are taking legal action against the governors of the University of California for what they describe as “longstanding, unchecked spread of anti-semitism” on the campus.

Among the school officials against whom the groups intend to bring before the Justice system includes President Michael Drake and others.

The Brandeis Center and the Jewish Americans for Fairness in Education (JAFE) has,  in a 36-page complaint filed Tuesday, claim “inaction” by UC Berkeley and Berkeley Law has given room for antisemitism to be condoned on campus.

According to the groups’ claim, since the terrorist attack, Oct 7, on Israel, antisemitism on campus “has erupted in on-campus displays of hatred, harassment, and physical violence against Jews.”

In light of this development, the groups insist that the courts must now come into the matter to protect the civil rights of Jewish students and faculty and put a stop to “anti-Semitic discrimination and harassment.”

However, officials of the University of California had appeared unwilling to respond to the press requests for a statement bearing on the issue.

The case touches on various issues, such as harassment of Jewish students by pro-palestinian protesters at university of California Berkeley, anti-semitic rallies honouring the gruesome massacre of more than 1,200 Israelis on Oct. 7, and a claim by the groups that a Jewish undergrad, covered in Israeli flag,  was assaulted by protesters “who struck him in the head with a metal water bottle,” according to the Brandeis Center’s report.
