Invictus center: CSO says Chief of Defence Staff intent on improving Nigerian troops' welfare

A civil society group, known as Citizens Awareness Initiative (CAI), has praised the Nigerian army’s new plan to build a  recovery housing facility, termed invictus center, for wounded troops and veterans.

Adams Igonor, the CAI’s Secretary,  revealed that the plan was announced in Abuja during a three-day visit of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan, to Nigeria, where the prince emphasized on the importance of improving a country’s troops’ welfare

Mr Adams Igonor, on Saturday in Abuja,  said the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, had been intent on improving the welfare of Nigerian troops.

According to Igonor, the invictus centre would be adequately designed with state-of-the-art technologies, medical equipment and therapeutic facilities that will help wounded soldiers, who are going through post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) recover.

“We commend Gen. Musa for his avowed commitment to personnel welfare,” Igonor said.

“Nigeria is privileged to become the first African country to join the Invictus community.”

The secretary noted that there was no doubt, that the centre would spur them to intensify their fight against enemies of the state, reported NAN.

“According to Prince Harry,” Igonor quoted, “when person’s trauma affects those around them, the healing of that one person can affect and improve the entire community.

“We have been following the CDS since his days in the North-East and he has continued to show genuine concern for his troops.”

Igonor also expressed confidence that the CDS’ initiative would bring a huge relief to many soldiers, wounded, scared and  suffering from the damages of wars and incessant fight against terrorists across Nigeria.
