Warri, Delta State, (EPICSTORIAN) —Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has voiced his disappointment at the past administration today over the protracted Trans Warri/Ode Itsekiri Road project, which has been under construction for shocking 17 years.
Accompanied by the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, the Oborevwori conducted a critical inspection of the 20.95-kilometer road, which includes multiple bridges and spurs essential for the Itsekiri Nation .
The Trans Warri/Ode Itsekiri Road, according to the governor, is a project of significant regional importance and has faced numerous delays since it was commissioned and abandoned by the past administration of the state.
Despite its critical role in improving connectivity and fostering economic development in the area, the project was abandoned, leaving residents and local leaders frustrated.
During the inspection, Governor Oborevwori expressed concern over the protracted timeline and emphasized the need for swift action, ordering the contractors of the decade-Long Road infrastructure to come forward for a review and ensure swift completion of the project.
He reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance policy for substandard work and stressed the importance of delivering quality infrastructure that meets the needs of the people.
Speaking at the site on Tuesday, as was published on his X post, Oborevwori said, “In continuation of the project inspections today, I visited the Modern Technical College in Omadino, Warri South Local Government Area, to assess the progress of ongoing projects.
“The college is one of the six approved by the immediate past administration. The pace of work is slow.
“I have directed that the affected contractors come to Government House, Asaba, to provide explanations for the slow pace of the projects.
“I inspected the 20.95-kilometre Trans Warri/Ode Itsekiri Road alongside the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, this morning.”

He said Setraco Nigeria Limited, the construction firm handling the project, has assured to complete the road within 18 months.
Mr. Jay Jay, the company’s South-South Regional Manager, also promised the governor and the Olu of Warri that the project is now on track for timely completion.
Jay Jay told Governor Sheriff Oborevwori that the delays have been caused by various challenges but affirmed that these issues are being resolved, but the governor maintained firm stance on the timely and efficient delivery of public projects, sending a clear message to all contractors working on state-funded initiatives.
“This project is key to the Itsekiri Nation. With multiple bridges and spurs, this project has a 17-year history behind it. Going forward, Setraco Nigeria Limited’s South-South Regional Manager, Mr. Jay Jay, has assured us of an 18-month completion date.

“I reiterated our zero-tolerance policy for substandard projects and guaranteed the contracting firm prompt payment,” he added.
