Gov Alex Otti lectures students of Johns Hopkins University in Washington, D.C. on 'State Governance and Economic Transition
Umuahia, April 19, (Epicstorian)- The governor of Abia State, Dr. Chioma Alex Otti , scheduled a lecture at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, D.C., where he discoursivily spoke on the topic of ‘State Governance and Economic Transition’.
The public lecture, which was hosted today in the United States, remains part of governor Alex Otti’s ever inspiring determination to bring exemplary leadership to Abia State governance, where a leader is up to speed with the modern requirements for economic progress as a result of quality educational background and continuous effective learning.
While inviting willing participants on his Social media handle to join through his Google meet link, international phone number, YouTube live and Telegram, Governor Alex Otti said, “I will be speaking at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, D.C., today.”
In his agenda to transform Abia, governor Alex has initiated numerous educational programs for Abia citizens, ensuring that teachers of primary and high learnings receive their deserved remunerations.
The governor’s progress in the educational sector does not only include the clearance of Abia teachers’ overdue salaries but also affected the previously educational reforms carried out by the Abia State ministry of Education under the leadership of governor Alex Otti.
The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Uche Eme Uche, in her recent address on the Abia State academic reform initiatives by the governor, said, “While government appreciates private investors for filling-in the gap in education in the past, a lot of things were wrong with the private schools that were shut down.
“We as a government appreciate what the private proprietors have done in the past, because when government abandoned schools, there was a lacuna and private investors took advantage of that, but in the process, it was abused, places that were not even fit for poultry farms became schools.
“So as a responsible government, in collaboration with professional bodies of private schools, we embarked on inspection of all those schools and it was alarming.”
“There were instances where one teacher taught three classes, obviously you would know that such classes don’t have partitions,” prof Uche added.
While the government of Alex Otti focuses on other numerous sectors of the Abia State’s economy, his administration, according to the State’s commissioner for information and culture, Prince Okey Kanu, has established an enforcement team to look into “curriculum of the schools” in the state.
“The enforcement team will look into the curriculum of the schools to ensure they meet standards and are complaint with the rules and regulations guiding their establishment.
“The Team would look at the spaces these schools have because a lot of schools these days don’t even have grounds for children to exercise. There are too many things in their menu with regards to standards,”Prince Okey Kanu added.
