A baby girl, 7-month-old, was savaged to death by the family pet dog at their home on Sunday, the police West Midlands Police said.

The little girl, Elle, was sharply taken to hospital the same Sunday afternoon—but unfortunately died while receiving treatment.

 Elle suffered serious head wounds from the animal’s attack, which was later destroyed by a police officer who rushed to the scene of the tragic incident.

According to DailyMail, the animal was not classed as a dangerous breed, but was killed by the police.

“A baby has tragically died after being bitten by a pet dog at a home in Coventry,” a Police spokesperson said.

The seven-month-old by was attacked by the family pet animal at her Coventry home in the West Midlands.

Further reporting on the incident, the police said a drug was administered to her, including other necessary first aid treatment by paramedics before being hospitalized.

“We were called to a property at Shorncliffe Road shortly after 3pm on Sunday. Together with our ambulance colleagues we arrived within minutes,” it said.

“A seven-month-old baby girl had received serious injuries to her head after being bitten by the family’s dog inside the home.

“She received treatment at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to hospital for further treatment. Tragically, she died a short time later.

What the grieving family said about the dog:

 

West Midlands Police said they sympathized with Elle’s family, adding that the family asked to be “left to grieve in private.”

They said: “We have updated Elle’s family, and a file is now being prepared for the Coroner.

“Our thoughts remain with the family at this tragic time, and they have asked now to be left to grieve in private.”
