The moniker also shares a name with a memecoin whose value surged by over 900% after Musk’s change, though no direct connection between Musk and the cryptocurrency has been confirmed. Musk’s influence on crypto markets is well-documented, with similar spikes observed in the past for Dogecoin.
Critics have highlighted the controversial history of Pepe the Frog, which the Anti-Defamation League classified as a hate symbol. However, Musk and many online communities dismiss this association, viewing Pepe as a harmless meme.
