Elon Musk news, Kekius Maximus, cryptocurrency surge, internet memes
(EPICSTORIAN) – Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of X (formerly Twitter), made headlines yet again by changing his profile name to “Kekius Maximus” on Tuesday. Accompanied by a profile picture of Pepe the Frog clad in gladiator armor, the move has sparked widespread speculation online.
Elon Musk Changes Name, Profile Pics on X to ‘Kekius Maximus,’ referencing gaming, memes, and crypto culture
Observers suggest the name combines “Kek,” an internet slang term tied to online gaming and memes, with Russell Crowe’s “Maximus Decimus Meridius” character from Gladiator. “Kekius Maximus will soon reach level 80 in hardcore PoE,” Musk posted on X, referring to the popular game Path of Exile 2.
The moniker also shares a name with a memecoin whose value surged by over 900% after Musk’s change, though no direct connection between Musk and the cryptocurrency has been confirmed. Musk’s influence on crypto markets is well-documented, with similar spikes observed in the past for Dogecoin.
Critics have highlighted the controversial history of Pepe the Frog, which the Anti-Defamation League classified as a hate symbol. However, Musk and many online communities dismiss this association, viewing Pepe as a harmless meme.
Adding to the intrigue, some believe Musk operates a burner account under the name Adrian Dittmann, which he has repeatedly denied. Musk even retweeted a Dittmann post joking about journalists covering the “Kekius Maximus” story.
Whether a joke, marketing ploy, or deeper commentary, Musk’s latest move reflects his unpredictable yet highly impactful online presence.
