Elon Musk Sued Over Alleged Breach of EU DSA, Tricking Users with X's Blue Checkmarks
The world richest man, and also the owner of X, a social media platform formerly Known as Twitter, Elon musk has been served a legal case notice by an European commissioner Thierry Breton Friday, July, 2024 on allegations over Breach of EU Digital Services Act.
Breton alleged that the X social media platform has been found in violation of the European Union Digital Services Act, and if further clarification of this claim is determined by the court Elon Musk will be fined.
Writing to Elon Musk on X, the commissioner said there would be no “secret deal” except what the court will decide if found guilty of breaching DSA regulations.
“Be our guest, elonmusk. There has never been — and will never be — any “secret deal” with anyone,” said Breton.
“The DSA provides X (and any large platform) with the possibility to offer commitments to settle a case.
“To be extra clear: it’s your team who asked the Commission to explain the process for settlement and to clarify our concerns.
“We did it in line with established regulatory procedures. Up to you to decide whether to offer commitments or not. That is how rule of law procedures work.
“See you in court or not,” he added.

Now with X, our preliminary view is that:
❌They deceive users
❌They infrige #DSA
“X has now the right of defence —but if our view is confirmed we will impose fines & require significant changes.”
In response to Breton’s accusations, Elon wrote, “We look forward to a very public battle in court, so that the people of Europe can know the truth.”
