CAIRO, EPICSTORIAN— Egypt Gas and Jordan’s Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) have signed a major agreement to extend natural gas services to Quweira Industrial City in Aqaba.
This initiative deepens the long-standing energy cooperation between Egypt and Jordan.
As part of the agreement, Egypt Gas and ADC will collaborate to establish a natural gas pipeline network dedicated to Quweira, said Egypttoday.
This includes constructing essential infrastructure to ensure safe and efficient gas delivery, such as control, operational, and public safety systems.
Egypt Gas says the project strengthens Egypt-Jordan energy ties
“This project not only enhances our energy infrastructure but also reinforces the relationship between Egypt and Jordan,” Egypt Gas stated.
This latest project builds on the Arab Gas Pipeline (AGP), a major regional infrastructure linking Egyptian gas supplies with Jordan and neighbouring countries.
Launched in the late 1990s, the AGP spans approximately 1,200 kilometres, facilitating the flow of Egyptian natural gas through Jordan, with extensions to Syria and Lebanon.
The AGP was completed in phases. The first phase, finalised in 2003, covers 265 kilometres from Egypt’s Al-Arish to Aqaba, with an annual capacity of up to 10 billion cubic metres.
In the second phase, completed in 2006, the pipeline was extended 393 kilometres north from Aqaba to Jordan’s Rehab region.
The third and final phase, completed by March 2008, connected Rehab to the Jordan-Syria border, further extending into Syria in 2008 to reach the city of Homs.
This partnership is a cornerstone of the energy relationship between Egypt and Jordan, driving sustainable energy solutions across the region and expanding the countries’ shared commitment to regional energy security and economic development.
