(EPICSTORIAN) — A Delta-operated passenger plane, carrying 76 people, crashed at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday afternoon, flipping onto its roof upon landing.
Emergency crews were quick to respond, and passengers made their way to safety on the icy tarmac. Eight people were injured in the incident, including one who remains in critical condition.
Flight Details and Initial Impact upon Landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport
The Bombardier CRJ-900, operated by Delta’s regional partner Endeavor Air, departed from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Upon arrival in Toronto, the aircraft encountered difficulties while attempting to land.
Witnesses described the moment of impact as terrifying, as the plane overturned and rested upside down on the snowy runway.
One passenger captured the chaos inside the cabin, showing herself hanging upside down in her seat. “My plane crashed. I’m upside down,” she wrote, sharing a video of others struggling to unbuckle themselves.
Evacuation and Passenger Accounts
All passengers and crew managed to evacuate safely, despite the severity of the crash. Videos from the scene showed survivors navigating through the overturned cabin before climbing out onto the frozen tarmac.
“I was just in a plane crash, oh my god,” one shaken passenger said, recording the scene as others exited the plane.
Emergency teams arrived swiftly, using foam to prevent any risk of fire. Their prompt response helped ensure that everyone was safely evacuated.
Injuries and Medical Response
Eight people received medical attention, with one in critical condition and the others sustaining minor to moderate injuries. Peel Regional Paramedic Services Supervisor Lawrence Saindon confirmed that all the injured were transported for treatment, but no fatalities were reported.
Official Statements and Airline Response
Delta Air Lines acknowledged the incident and confirmed it was collaborating with authorities to determine what caused the crash.
