President Tinubu enforces cost-cutting measures, limiting government officials’ convoys to three vehicles and reduced security

Abuja, EPICSTORIAN – President Bola Tinubu has limited Ministers and Heads of Agencies to three Vehicles for Government Officials per convoy.

The directive, issued today, also prohibits the allocation of additional Vehicles for Government Officials for their movement.

This new policy is part of a broader cost-cutting initiative that began in January, when President Tinubu significantly scaled down his own entourage, reducing Vehicles for Government Officials on both foreign and local trips.

His foreign delegation was reduced from 50 to 20 officials, while domestic trips were limited to 25 personnel.

A similar reduction was applied to Vice President Kashim Shettima, who now travels with a maximum of five officials abroad and 15 within Nigeria, all under the restrictions on Vehicles for Government Officials.

The President’s latest directive extends these measures to other government officials, including ministers and heads of agencies, who are now allowed no more than five security personnel.

This team will consist of four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer.

Tinubu emphasized that no extra security personnel will be assigned beyond this limit.

The directive also calls for the National Security Adviser to consult with military, paramilitary, and security agencies to assess the feasibility of further reductions in vehicle and security personnel deployment.

President Tinubu’s goal is to enhance accountability and reduce government spending, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to financial prudence.

All government officials affected by these new guidelines are required to comply immediately, highlighting the urgency and seriousness of the changes. This move is expected to save substantial resources, focusing the government’s efforts on critical national development priorities.

In a statement signed by the President, and released by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy , the government reiterated its focus on fiscal responsibility, aiming to set an example of efficient governance.

“President Bola Tinubu has restricted Ministers, Ministers of State, and Heads of Agencies of the Federal Government to a maximum of three vehicles in their official convoys,” it read.

“No additional vehicles will be assigned to them for movement. The cost-cutting measure was announced today in a statement signed by the President.

“In January this year, President Tinubu took significant steps to reduce government expenditure by reducing his entourage on foreign trips from 50 to 20 officials.

“For local trips, he reduced it to 25 officials. He similarly reduced the Vice President’s entourage to five officials on foreign trips and 15 for local trips.

“In the directive issued today, President Tinubu also ordered all ministers, ministers of state, and heads of agencies to have at most five security personnel attached to them.

“The security team will comprise four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer. No additional security personnel will be assigned, he ordered.

“President Tinubu instructed the National Security Adviser to engage with the Military, Paramilitary and Security Agencies to determine a suitable reduction in their vehicle and security personnel deployment.

“All affected officials are expected to comply with these new measures immediately, underscoring the urgency and seriousness of these changes.”
