Trump pauses military aid to Ukraine, leaving European allies scrambling to fill the critical supply gap.
(EPICSTORIAN) — President Donald Trump has halted all US military aid to Ukraine, following a heated Oval Office exchange with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
The decision freezes all weapons shipments, including those already in transit, until Ukrainian leaders commit to peace, according to a senior Defense Department official.
The pause affects critical supplies, including guided multiple launch rocket systems, anti-tank weapons, and other munitions, according to a report cited by Bloomberg.
Equipment held in transit zones in Poland and onboard military aircraft and vessels will remain stationary under the directive. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has been ordered to enforce the suspension immediately.
Tensions Over Peace Negotiations
Efforts to reach a settlement remain strained. During last week’s meeting in Washington, Zelenskiy requested security guarantees to prevent future Russian attacks. Trump, rejecting the demand, told the Ukrainian president to return when ready to negotiate peace.
European allies now face mounting pressure to keep Ukraine’s forces supplied. Officials acknowledge that existing stockpiles may last only through summer. Without US support, European governments are seeking emergency measures to sustain deliveries.
What Comes After US Military Aid to Ukraine?
The full impact of Trump’s order remains uncertain. The previous administration allocated $3.85 billion in military assistance under presidential drawdown authority, but how much of that funding will be used is unclear.
US stockpiles have already been stretched thin, complicating decisions on further arms transfers. Defense contractors fulfilling contracts for Ukraine may also require compensation if deliveries are canceled.
Talks on Economic Support Collapse
Suspending aid comes as negotiations stall on a US-Ukraine agreement involving future revenue from Ukraine’s natural resources. The deal, intended to secure long-term financial support, appears to have unraveled after Friday’s Oval Office meeting.

With US assistance on hold, European leaders are weighing options to fill the gap. However, replacing American military aid presents logistical and financial challenges, leaving Ukraine in a vulnerable position as Russian forces continue their advance.
