BREAKING: SERAP urges NEMA  to account for the over N1 billion  reportedly paid to an Israeli based company for a new aircraft in 2010

The Social-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has requested that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Abuja should account for the N1 billion meant for the purchase of an aircraft in 2010 , which was never delivered to date.

It said the N1,054,222,576.00 was reportedly paid to an Israeli based company for a new aircraft in 2010 by NEMA under administration of president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

The statement was discovered on SERAP’s X official handle on Thursday evening, where it highlighted that “the Auditor-General fears the money may have been pocketed”.

The statement read, “ The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Abuja reportedly paid over N1 billion [N1,054,222,576.00] for ‘a new aircraft in 2010.’ But the aircraft has not been delivered to date. The Auditor-General fears the money may have been pocketed.

“We urge the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Abuja to account for the over N1 billion [N1,054,222,576.00] reportedly paid “to an Israeli based company for a new aircraft in 2010” that was never delivered. We’ll hold NEMA to account if it fails to act.

The Agency also added that NEMA should account for the undistributed 26,106 bags of 50 Kg rice in 3017.

“The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Abuja reportedly paid over N746 million [N746,785,568.70] to buy “26,106 bags of 50kg rice in 2017 and 2018” but failed “to distribute the items to the people until they expired.” The Auditor-General wants the money refunded,” it added.
