Nigeria, June 4, (EPICSTORIAN)- Leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have on Tuesday released a statement that they have reached a decision to call off the nationwide strike.

The determination to put off the nationwide strike, made by both agencies( Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress) responsible for the coordination and enforcement of Nigeria’s workers industrial actions, was pushed by a series of pressures mounted on the Nigerian Federal government on Monday.

Following the shutdown of National grid, banking institutions, schools, and other basic facilities, the Nigerian federal government invited the two unions to a meeting on Monday night, requesting for the relaxation of the nationwide strike.

Decisions reached by the federal government and the organized labour Unions meeting on Monday night to suspend the nationwide strike:

President Bola Tinubu pledge “committed to a National Minimum Wage that is higher than N60,000”.

The leadership of the three negotiating committees, the unions’ top members and the government representatives, are urged to meet everyday for the next one week to further adjust the demanded  Minimum Wage, of which the government had earlier described as “unrealistic”, to an acceptable amount.
