



MAIDUGURI, July 26, EPICSTORIAN – At least seven officers of the Nigerian military have been killed after a mine explosion in Borno State Friday, said vigilant officers.
The incident, which occurred at the location of the Boko Haram terrorists, claimed lives of seven operational soldiers who have been fighting within the state against insecurity for years.
Insecurity challenges befalling
Nigeria range from separatist violent movements and attacks in the southeast, Islamist religious extremist
insurgency in the northeast, kidnapping and oil theft by militant group in the Niger Delta.
A local vigilante officer, Shaibu Musa, according to Reuters, said a military vehicle was travelling along the road linking the villages of Monguno and Baga on Thursday when the vehicle detonated an improvised explosive device.
Superiors of the seven dead Nigerian soldiers are yet to comment:
The military, when contacted by reporters, did not immediately respond to request for comment on the nature of the incident from their own investigation.
However, the colleague of the local vigilante officer, Isa Bukar, in his account added that the explosion, which however was assumed to imploded accidentally, occurred on Thursday morning after seven Nigerian soldiers on patrol triggered the mine which killed them.
