A man sentenced to indefinite hospital order after setting fire to two elderly people leaving mosque in London.
Birmingham, April 19, (Epicstorian) – Muhammad Abbkr, 29, who set fire to two elderly men as they left separate mosques in the West Midlands region of England, has been found guilty of attempting murder and sentenced to indefinite hospital order .
Muhammad Abbkr, who claimed he was among several people his victims were controlling through magic, followed the two men, sprayed them with fuel from a water bottle, and used a lighter to set them on fire.
Before he was convicted by majority 11-1 verdicts in November, Judge Melbourne Inman KC said the “attacks” on the two victims “were horrific”.
Abbkr’s victims, according to the West Midlands Police Police, were left with “long-lasting physical injuries” and in condition that highly likely to result in “significant mental trauma”.
Mohammed Abbkr attacked Hashi Odowa, 82, and Mohammed Rayaz, 70, outside mosques in London and Birmingham in February and March last year, Skynews reported.
While passing a judgement on Abbkr, who has paranoid schizophrenia, Judge Melbourne Inman KC described “the “nature of each of the separate attacks as identical”.
“The nature of each attack was identical. You threw petrol over your victims and then set them alight – the attacks were horrific, ” the Judge said.
“The two victims in this case were, on any rational view, chosen at random. You, however, genuinely believed each of them was one of those trying to take control of you,” the judge added.
“I am wholly satisfied that you committed both of these offences at a time when you were suffering a severe mental illness.”
While he is contained and being treated at Ashworth high security hospital in Merseyside, the court proceedings were shared to Abbkr through a video link.
A Source claimed that the court had heard how Abbkr, from Edgbaston, Birmingham— said prayers with the congregation before waiting for his victims outside and immediately followed them as soon as the Mosque service was over.
Abbkr, according to his criminal records with the court, set Mr Odowa on fire in February 27, 2023 as he left for a neighbour’s car outside West Ealing Islamic Centre in west London; and a few weeks later he also attacked Mr Rayaz on 20 March after he left the Dudley Road Mosque in Birmingham.
Muhammad Abbkr, as an assylum seeker, came to the United kingdom from Sudan in 2017 and was granted leave to remain two years later .
Mr Abbkr earlier had denied the two counts of attempted murder and two alternative charges, in his previous crimes, bordering on maliciously administering a destructive thing to endanger the lives of his victims.
However, jurors presently have a report of his guilty plea to having set the victims on fire, yet the court has to determine whether Muhammad Abbkr had intended to kill his victims, if he was aware of what he was doing / or that this was wrong and against the law.
