Nigeria, July 4, The 28-year-old Son of an Anglican priest, Ufuoma Umurie, killed his father ,Rev. Isaac Umurie, in his sleep  in Ughelli South Local Government Areas, Delta State.

The Anglican priest, Rev. Isaac Umurie, who was a serving cleric at the St. John’s Anglican Church, Okpare-Olomu, had been murdered in the early hours of Wednesday.

Ufuoma, according to an anonymous third party’s account, almost killed his mother, too, who tried to stop him before his father lost all his blood and died.

The killer cut his father’s head open and other parts of his body with a razor-sharp cutlass, leaving him to bled to death.

Ufuoma, who was described by the community members as being “mentally unstable” had prevented neighbours from entering to the house to save his dying father at the time.

Ufuoma had attempted to kill his father twice before finally succeeding this time.

The cause of his action outside the community’s claim, however, is still not yet known.

What community members said had led to the death of the Anglican priest:

One of the neighbours, who withheld their identity, as was reported by a source, said, “This is the second time Ufuoma is attacking his father. The other time, he beat him up, and the Okpare-Olomu vigilantes held him.

“But the father pleaded that he should not be taken to the police station. We heard that he is not mentally stable.

“In today’s incident, he hacked the father with a cutlass, burst his skull, and mutilated other parts of his body. The priest has a few years to retire.

“He was brought closer home because of his retirement before this unfortunate incident,” he added.

Otu-Jeremi Divisional Headquarters police has launched an investigation into the case, while the suspect remains in custody.
