(EPICSTORIAN) — A newborn died after falling from a second-floor window of a Paris hotel, leading to the arrest of an 18-year-old American tourist.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 6 a.m. after receiving reports of a baby lying on the pavement outside an Ibis Styles hotel on Rue des Réglises.
The child, still attached to its umbilical cord, was transported to Robert-Debré Hospital but did not survive.

Police detained the young woman at the scene. She was part of a group of American travelers visiting Europe. The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed that an investigation is underway on suspicion of “homicide of a minor under 15.” The suspect required medical attention and underwent surgery before being placed under custody.
Eyewitness Accounts
Hotel guests and bystanders described a scene of disbelief and panic. One witness recalled hearing a scream before noticing the baby on the ground. “I looked outside and saw people running toward it,” they said. Hotel staff called emergency services while guests watched in shock.
A local resident described the response from authorities as swift. “Police and paramedics arrived quickly, but there was nothing they could do for the child,” they stated.
Ongoing Investigation
Investigators are reviewing security footage and questioning those who were present. Medical evaluations of the suspect are underway, and legal proceedings will determine the next steps.
