Uyo (EPICSTORIAN) — Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Eno in his statement revealed that the move was motivated by the desire to align the state with the Federal Government to attract more developmental presence.
During a speech titled “Progressives Movement from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC)”, the governor cited his long-standing admiration for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his reform-driven leadership style as a major factor in his decision.

The governor recalled his professional experience in Lagos during President Tinubu’s tenure as governor, praising the vision and governance that elevated Lagos to a top-tier subnational entity in Nigeria.
According to Eno, the current challenges facing Nigeria require leaders to set aside partisan affiliations and focus on national development.
“Political parties are merely vehicles for elections,” he said. “Governance should be done without rigid political labels. What matters is enlightened interests, not ideology.”
He emphasized the importance of peace, unity, and inclusivity, highlighting Akwa Ibom’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s most peaceful states. “We must preserve this peace and use it as a catalyst for growth,” he added.
The governor reassured Akwa Ibom residents of his commitment to inclusive and bipartisan governance. “I want to run a government where we can all work, pray, dream, and achieve together without political divisions,” he stated.
He confirmed his resignation from the PDP by submitting formal letters to his ward, state, and national party leadership. “Today marks my progressive movement into the All Progressives Congress,” he declared, while asserting that his values and principles remain unchanged.
Commenting on President Tinubu’s economic policies, he applauded the courage shown in confronting national financial challenges.
“The removal of the petrol subsidy has enabled more funds for subnational development,” he said. “Now, Akwa Ibom is a vast construction site with projects across all 31 local government areas.”
The governor urged continued support for the Tinubu administration, citing improved economic clarity and growing investor confidence.
