In the first half 45 minutes Nigeria had made a fine shot by Simon Moses, but that was a near-miss. It possibly would have been the only best chance, within the first 45 minutes, for it to be in the leading position throughout the game.
Nigeria will meet Ivory Coast and Guinea Bissau later in the ongoing tournament to decide their fate, and know which teams will qualify from Team A. AFCON 2023
Immediately after the first kick off both teams began to play professionally according to their skills. And then, within the first 36 minutes Equatorial Guinea had just scored one goal by a player Known as Salvado.
1St half result: 36 minutes:
Equatorial Guinea 1-0 Nigeria
36 minutes: GOAL! Salvado opened the scoring for Equatorial Guinea.
Then quickly within 38 minutes: GOAL! Nigerian player, Victor Osimehn, responded with a successful shot.
The match would produce more successful wins for Nigeria if not that, well that’s what the game is often all about, they missed several golden opportunities to score in the second half. AFCON 2023
2 HALF 45 Minutes:
In the 2nd half ‘51 Minutes’ Ola Aina had missed a great chance to shoot into the net as he lazily passed it to the Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper, Owono, to keep for him “maybe he had planned to buy a house in Equatorial Guinea to save his lost goal” and that was painful to see.
There was a short-lived excitement triggered by expectations for victory, every Nigerian spectator in the stadium was like it’s GOAL! 💔 But, then, ugh, that hit the bar, he missed the target.

Zaidu had missed his own two golden opportunities to score, too. That would have become his second goal.
The Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper, Jesus Owono, saved many shots by the weak Nigerian team, which has earned him a title as the Man of the Match. The reason was clear, the Nigerian players were playing like they lacked confidence, even as Zaidu kicked the ball with the edge of his foot was unprofessional. AFCON 2023
The Super Eagles of Nigeria were held to a 1-1 draw by Equatorial Guinea in their first match of the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast on Sunday.
Honestly, Nigerians can’t afford to mess this chance up!
