Governor Jorginho Mello confirmed via a statement on X (formerly Twitter)
that 21 individuals were on board the balloon at the time of the crash.
Rescue efforts began swiftly, and by afternoon, officials confirmed that 13 people survived, while eight were pronounced dead at the scene.
“We are all shocked by the accident,” Mello wrote. “Our teams continue to provide all necessary support to the families and victims. We continue to monitor the situation.”
