Liverpool, UK (EPICSTORIAN) – Several fans were injured after a car ploughed into a crowd during Liverpool’s Premier League victory parade in the heart of the city on Monday evening.
The incident unfolded on Water Street just after 6 p.m. as thousands gathered to celebrate the Reds’ league triumph.
Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene. Police confirmed that the car stopped and a man was detained.
Disturbing footage circulated online showed chaos in the aftermath, with fans being treated on stretchers and others receiving support from authorities.
Celebrations Turn to Panic on Water Street
The Liverpool’s Premier League victory parade had begun earlier that afternoon, with players including Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah leading the bus through a 10-mile route.
The vehicle-related incident occurred as fans packed Water Street to witness their heroes celebrate the club’s 20th top-flight title.
According to police, the car entered the street while beeping, collided with multiple pedestrians, and then came to a halt. “We were contacted just after 6pm following reports of a car in collision with a number of pedestrians on Water Street. The vehicle stopped and a male has been detained,” said a Merseyside Police spokesperson.
Multiple Agencies Respond as Investigations Begin
A large police cordon was established while ambulances and fire services managed the scene. The North West Ambulance Service stated it was “supporting an incident in Liverpool city centre, ensuring all victims receive prompt medical assistance.”
Government officials, including Prime Minister and Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, are being kept updated on the situation. Liverpool City Council confirmed they are coordinating with police to monitor developments.
Celebratory Mood Shattered at Liverpool’s Premier League Victory Parade
The Liverpool’s Premier League victory parade had drawn tens of thousands. Fans waved flags and flares as the open-top bus carrying players moved from Allerton Maze along Queens Drive, mirroring the route of the 2019 parade. The club bus was branded with “Champions” and “Ours Again,” showcasing the Premier League trophy.
Despite heavy rainfall, the crowd remained energetic. Players took turns lifting the trophy atop the bus, engaging directly with supporters lined behind barricades. However, the joy of the parade turned into distress within minutes following the road traffic collision.
Fan Footage Captures the Disturbing Incident
Videos on social media captured the alarming moment the car breached the crowd, sending many fleeing in panic. One video showed a man being comforted by an officer, while another showed emergency crews swiftly transporting an injured individual away from the scene.

Merseyside Police urged anyone with videos or information to come forward to aid the investigation. “We are reviewing all available footage and statements to determine the full circumstances behind this incident,” they said.
The day had been set to mark a major sporting achievement in Liverpool’s history. The incident has instead cast a somber shadow over what was intended to be a jubilant occasion.
