Humanitarian organizations have raised concerns about the implications for critical medical care programs.
Medical Evacuations Disrupted by Gaza visitor visas Suspension
Nonprofit organizations coordinating medical evacuations have criticized the visa halt, noting its impact on children and adults requiring urgent care.
HEAL Palestine, a U.S.-registered group, has evacuated 148 individuals, including 63 children with severe injuries, from Gaza to receive treatment.
The organization emphasized that its program is strictly for temporary medical support and does not function as a refugee resettlement initiative.

Similarly, the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund warned that the suspension could hinder access to life-saving treatments for injured Palestinian children.
Political Tensions and Public Reactions Intensify
The decision follows social media campaigns by far-right activist Laura Loomer, who asserted that individuals arriving from Gaza might pose a national security risk.
Loomer has publicly credited her advocacy for influencing the State Department’s action. The move has sparked debate among lawmakers and civil society groups about the balance between protecting national security and providing humanitarian assistance.
Some policymakers support the suspension, citing security concerns, while others emphasize the urgent need to maintain medical evacuation programs for vulnerable populations.
Secretary Rubio clarified that the review aims to ensure visas are appropriately vetted without compromising humanitarian obligations.
Review Will Determine Future Gaza Visa Policies
The State Department has indicated that the suspension will continue while it evaluates procedures for issuing medical-humanitarian visas to Gaza residents.
This review could affect future approvals and establish guidelines for managing similar programs.

Humanitarian groups continue to advocate for uninterrupted medical care for those in critical need, emphasizing the severe consequences for children and adults requiring specialized treatment.
Policymakers are expected to weigh national security risks against humanitarian priorities as the review progresses.
