4 people dead, 5 others wounded in Kwara road accident

At least four vehicle passengers died in a road accident that occurred around Ayere, along the Ilọrin/Bode Saadu highway in Kwara State on Wednesday.

According to a source, four persons had died in a car crash while travelling, at 1:pm Nigerian time, along the Ilọrin/Bode Saadu highway in Kwara State. 

Details of the accident revealed that this happened when a truck driver recklessly tried to overtake a moving vehicle which resulted in a head-on collision with another truck in the front.

A Statement by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Public Relations Officer, Kwara State, Bilikis Basambo,  confirmed the report on Wednesday.

Bilikis Basambo said that an initially carried out investigation on the incident revealed that one of the trucks was carrying fertiliser and eight passengers, and had carelessly overtake another vehicle without a clear view of the road ahead before the collision.

“But in a bid to avoid colliding with an oncoming truck, the driver lost control and swerved to the side thereby colliding with another truck carrying tomatoes.

“A total of 10 persons were involved in the crash. Five were injured while four others sadly lost their lives. The obstructions had been cleared to allow free flow of traffic,” the FRSC Public Relations Officer said.

She also assured that the commission is working effortlessly to make roads safe for users, adding that the sector commander, Stephen Dawulung, has  directed a detailed investigation into the full situation of the accident.

Bilikis Basambo appealed to all road feeders, private and commercial drivers to avoid overspeeding, overloading, drink driving, and  other acts that may pose threat to safety and endanger lives.
