Hope Uzodimma addresses Nigeria’s 65th Independence service in Owerri, calling for accountability and responsible governance.
Speaking at the Government House Chapel, he declared that the time had come to abandon old practices that hinder progress.
“The old order is giving way to the new; one defined by responsibility, accountability, and the dignity of hard work,” Uzodimma told the congregation.
Accountability central to new governance culture
Uzodimma stressed that accountability is the cornerstone of the emerging governance culture in both the state and the country.
He linked this principle to the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as a pathway to rebuilding the national economy.
According to Uzodimma, Nigerians deserve to enjoy the dividends of abundance, not the struggles of mismanagement.
The governor said accountability in leadership must go hand-in-hand with the dignity of labour in daily life.
Uzodimma says Nigerians must feel governance impact
“I remain grateful for the opportunity to serve and committed to ensuring that our people feel the impact of good governance in their daily lives,” he stated.
He insisted that reforms would only matter if they translated into tangible benefits for families, workers, and communities across the nation.
The governor said governance must not be a distant concept but a practical experience for citizens.
Natural resources for economic recovery
The governor emphasized that Nigeria’s natural wealth is an untapped engine for economic recovery.
He noted that productive utilization of resources would stimulate industries, create jobs, and raise national revenues.
Uzodimma said failure to act differently would mean continuing the cycle of underdevelopment despite abundant reserves.
He pointed to the state’s ongoing development agenda as evidence of efforts to align local initiatives with federal economic policies.
Call to responsibility during anniversary service
Uzodimma urged Nigerians to commit themselves to a new order of responsibility.
He said responsibility begins with individuals and extends to leadership at all levels.
“We must commit to doing things differently,” Uzodimma said, underscoring the importance of shifting from old habits that undermine growth.
He added that the anniversary service was a symbolic reminder of unity and resilience in the national journey.
Independence service marks turning point
The thanksgiving service was attended by political leaders, clergy, and citizens who gathered to reflect on 65 years of independence.
Uzodimma used the platform to align Imo State with the broader national vision of reform and renewal.
He said the Independence anniversary was not just a celebration of history but an opportunity to chart a new course for Nigeria.
According to him, the occasion should inspire a national resolve to rebuild institutions and reward integrity.
Commitment to serve with accountability
Uzodimma reaffirmed his personal commitment to uphold accountability in governance.
He said leaders must serve with transparency, while citizens must embrace the dignity of work to achieve progress.
